gardening lesson 1

This year I've added 2 additional plots to the ones I had last year.
My biggest motivation is to have enough harvest in order to donate a portion to the plant-a row for the hungry program. I also want to plant some butternut squash and pumpkin and they require lots of space.
I started tomatoes, eggplants and peppers seedlings inside and this week my goal was to expose them gradually outside.
While I practiced for my piano class, I left them outside ....
When I came back, I was speechless....

This is so disheartening!
Last year,I had no luck as I lost all my seedlings to the heavy rains in May...
I guess I will just buy a few plants at the farmer's market this weekend.

progress...

I hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe April is almost over...
I have to say that I am also relieved as it has been one of my most stressful semesters.
Actually 2001 and so far pretty much 2012.
I am really looking forward to the summer!

This week, I had my dissertation proposal defense and I am so happy that it went well.
I passed!

I've struggled to visualize reaching this point and I am so excited about this progress. I have to revise it a lot and submit the new version next week.

Hopefully this summer, I can start writing the first chapter of my dissertation...

Gardening season is also here.
I've already planted beans, flowers, peas, potatoes and onions to name a few.
I also have some tomatoes, peppers and eggplants seedlings that need more time to mature.
I have this plot for the entire year including the winter. It will be nice to experiment with winter crops and I am hoping to sign up for regular gardening classes offered in the community.

Today also marks my first CSA pick-up for this 2012 season.
It is so exciting!
I received radishes, lettuce, kale, green onions, chives and beets
as extras: locally roasted coffee, local cheese, mushrooms and free range eggs

I will be in Chicago this weekend and I can't wait to stop to MAC and Bobbi Brown.
Do you have any recommendations from the latest collections?

I am also hoping to visit one or two yarn stores :)
