Deep conditioning on a budget

So I have always read rave reviews about how the combination of olive oil and honey makes a delicious moisturizing deep treatment for hair.
Olive oil provides much needed moisture and strengthens hair while Honey is a natural humectant and moisturizer.

As I love honey, I've always been hesitant to try this recipe since I'd rather enjoy honey with tea, on bread, on crepes....by itself ..anyways. It is like avocados : they make a great treatment but I'd rather eat them ..lol..

Since I've signed up for the challenge "no more hair products until I use up everything I own", I decided to try this recipe:

1 tablespoon of honey

2 tablespoons of olive oil

well I had to adjust the measurements because my hair is thick!!

  • Warm up olive oil
  • Stir honey
  • Apply to wet hair and wear a conditioning cap...
I kept the treatment for an hour while I was watching TV....

May I say I am amazed at the results?

softness softness and softness....and all those nasty tangles and knots are gone. I used it before shampooing and the treatment is easy to rinse out.

It is a keeper!!

I love homemade recipes! I tried this when I first went natural and it left my hair crunchy. That was 7 years ago and I had no clue what I was doing so I wonder if the results would be different now.

@product junkie: thank you so much!! that is so sweet. Please let me know how it works for you

@suzie c: me too! I swear as soon as I finish up all my products, I am going to start whipping my own products. Try it again. The first time I tried it, it didn't like it either..but i think i went too heavy on the honey. So now, I'll incorporate it in my regimen once a month or once every two weeks during the winter

@James: thank you for visiting. I think it does help with flakes since honey will bring in tons of moisture...
you can also try a hot oil treatment with pure jojoba oil. Jojoba is great at addressing scalp issues :)

I keep hearing about this recipe and have been leary to try it. I keep thinking how hard it is going to be to wash out the sticky honey.

But, I guess I will give it a go this weekend.

nywele said...

@ Kay C: It is actually not difficult to rinse out. The honey is not sticky at all and if you do this treatment as a pre-poo, by the time you shampoo and condition, you should be all set! No worries of stickiness or bees :)

Oh yeah, honey and olive oil don't play around. I need to go to the local $0.99 Store to stock up on honey.
