So this is my life lately...

I have insomnia since September and it's taking a toll on me..
I have to say part of it is because I am quite anxious and worry a LOT about everything and little things...
Any suggestions on how to combat insomnia?
I tried drinking chamomile tea...
spraying some lavender on my pillow..
drinking milk before sleeping..
Any suggestions are appreciated :)

how about getting a heated blanket for the winter? being extra cozy always makes me fall asleep really fast.
I have this issue too!! I will be waiting to see the suggestions you get, Amina.
girl i wish i could help since i have had the same problems. things that moderately work are making sure the room is super dark and pretty quiet(no tv). keeping the same schedule helps even if i am off (sometimes its lame to go to bed at 11 on saturday but oh well). also dont beat yourself up over it. if you cant sleep, you cant (i would worry and that made it worse). i finally would just read or something and fall asleep or be so tired the next day that i would fall right to sleep that night. also put the computer away if that is your problem. i also tried melatonin and that would help get to a relaxing state but i still had to do most of the environmental work that helped the most.
Have you tried melatonin? It's an herbal supplement that helps your body know it's time to go to sleep. I've been taking it off and on for a long time because of my insomnia. It also helps me to sleep more soundly. The best part is that you don't wake up feeling groggy at all.
Sweet dreams!
@everyone: thank you for your suggestion ladies:) I am really grateful!!
@justme and Hass-Barks: I suppose I can get melatonin at the health store. What time shall i take it? an hour before sleeping?
I hate insomnia!!!! I remember my yoga teacher saying that if you can't sleep you should lay flat on your back on the floor and practice some breathing exercises. You inhale and exhale while your eyes are close!
i know that feeling girl, i think there are good suggestions on here...keep a regular schedule, no distractions...especially tv and lighting...i know this is bad, but sometimes i would pop a benadryl if it's bad...just one in a blue moon though...hopefully it gets better!
Aww babes, I'm sorry. I've never had a problem with sleep so I'm not sure where to start with this problem here. But I do know that doing everything BUT sleeping in your bed is not a good idea. Studying, eating and lounging in the bed isn't a good idea. You don't do that do you?
I used to have this problem a couple of yrs ago and nothing but sleeping pills (unisom) or the old nyquil did the trick for me...now, just drinking a cup of hot milky tea or hot chocolate milk gets me sleepy...if the former is not ur style, try the latter...hope this helps somewhat!
One word: Ambien. I've suffered from insomnia for years and Ambien has been the most effective thing. I wish I knew of an all natural insomnia cure :(.
Sorry about ya insomnia. That sucks especially in this chilly weather. I hope you feel better. Try using Ambien too. I was thinking Ambien before writing this post. I hope it goes away. Need a hug. Muah.
amina, get some 'TUSSIN!
sike naw, lol...for the kidyum, his allergy meds get him sleepy so before his bath, he gets his dose, a good rub down and tucked it..ZZzzzz!
sorry i don't have this prob.. i'm trying to figure out what to take to not make me sleepy and have more energy. i think i know, but i need to do it!
these are things that have made me sleepy: advil pm, benedryl, soggy cheese steak.. it's bad i know but hey....
I've had insomnia for just about all my life so I have not ideas to share. That melatonin supplement sounds promising though...
I hope you've been getting some well deserved sleep, sweetie!
I know how you feel. Lately i have been getting some rest I don't know how it led to this.. I still wake up in the middle of the night or something.. I talk to my self, imagine things close my eyes n i'm gone.. possible you shoulds try going to bed the same every night, If you can't sleep get up and do something then try again.
this is hard, i think you should try to make your day so tiring that you have no choice than sleep at night...Did you ever think about learning some kind of relaxing yoga, it can help you being less worried when bedtime comes! But do not take sleeping pills because then you'll never be able to get a natural sleep
@everyone: thank you so much for your suggestions. They're so helpful!
I'll try them each one and I am looking forward to sleeeeeeeep!
hugs
OK so I tried the melatonin supplement. Puts me to sleep no problem. But my issue is that I wake up earlier then my clock and that, it didn't help with. Again this morning, even I woke up at 5am even if it's a Saturday...
