I *heart* Edwidge Danticat!
I have read all of her books and she is one of my favorites writers!!
She was scheduled for a talk in Indianapolis (up North) which is almost a 2 hr drive.
After a long day, I was just ready to collapse on my sofa but I needed some energy to be awake during the talk. So right after teaching, I got some coffee, put all her books in a bag, grabbed the GPS, glasses and I was ready to hit the highway.
My reward:
I was soo excited to meet her. She read poems from Lucille Clifton who was scheduled to speak today but passed away. Then she talked about the recent events in Haiti, her trip and impressions, her family and how Haitians writers and artists are expressing their grief.
Seeing her felt so surreal. We talked briefly and she was kind enough to let me take a picture with her and signed all my books. I am so happy I was able to meet her :)
Have you read any of her books? Which one is your favorite?

Lucky! I read Breathe, Eyes, Memory, but I LOOOVED, loved The Farming of Bones. I find the histories between the peoples of Hispanola to be fascinating and book was so amazing. Might need to reread this again soon! :-)
:) thank you for your comment Bianca. That is an amazing book!!! The farming of Bones is one my favorites!!!
Ooooooooo! I haven't read her books but now is the time! How cool for you! Woooowwwww!
Wow, Amina! Aren't you so glad you went!?!?! I looooove Danticat, too. I have read Krik? Krak! and The Framing of Bones. I have Breath, Eyes, Memory (BEM) but haven't read it yet. My favorite of hers so far is Krik? Krak! I checked it out from the library for a class during my first year in graduate school. I sat down in the library to read it thinking that I would just read a chapter or two, but ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. She is a brilliant writer and an amazing woman! I think I am going to start BEM soon.
That must have been such an amazing experience, meeting a writer you love! Love that you got a picture of her AND got all your books autographed!
Until now, I had never heard of her. What sort of books does she write?
pretty pic! I love her writing as well! Got the chance to meet her after her book 'Brother, I'm Dying' came out, and at a media panel. LOVE HER! She has such a beautifully warm spirit. I gave Krik? Krak! to my aunt just this past weekend, and want to read 'Breathe, Eyes, Memory.' This was a good reminder that I should get on it;-)
@Anna Renee: thank you :)

@goodnaija: it was, thank you for sharing my joy. She writes about Haiti, Haitians living in the US, the dictatorship, their strength, she's amazing!
@Chai: breathe, eyes and memory is such a powerful book! loove it!!
and yes she has such a warm spirit!
I LOVE her! I read Breath, Eyes, Memory and Behind the Mountains. She came to my university twice and spoke to our Africana Studies department. She's wonderful. Great pic!
I had to read Krik? Krak! for a class I took and I LOVED it. It became one of my favorite books instantly.
I love this author! I have read all her books and really can't decide which is my favorite!
